15.4.2 Procedures
Procedures for a fire in the building:
• Alert everyone in your area and notify security
• Do not notify the Fire Brigade as this is done when the alarm rings
• Check the evacuation map in your area
• Proceed to the nearest fire exit if you have to evacuate the area
• Never run and do not use the lifts in the warehouse
• Go immediately to the safe area (the park near the bus stop) and report to your area warden so that a head count can be completed promptly
Emergency Evacuation Procedures:
Assist anyone in immediate danger.
• SOUND THE ALARM and alert your section Warden
- Dial (0)000. Ask for the service needed (Fire/Police/Ambulance) - Wait to be connected
- Calmly give the operator details of the building, floor, location and nature of the emergency
• ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE TIME, NOTIFY: Switchboard Extension 9
- Emergency Control Officer on Extension 8978
• The Emergency Control Office/Fire Warden will assess the
situation, take control and issue instructions. Directions given by the Emergency Personnel must be observed
• After hours--once you raise the alarm, you must evacuate the building immediately. Fight the fire only if you are trained to do so
• Evacuate the area when instructed and proceed to the assembly point
• Move quickly, but in an orderly manner, down the fire stairs in the
Factory and Warehouse and out of the building as directed by the fire wardens
• Proceed to the assembly point which is in the park off Main Road near the bus stop.
Do not re-enter the buildings until authorised to do so
